 Phil Mickelson won his third green jacket today with a 3 shot victory over Lee Westwood. Usually this time of year, I'm watching the replays on T.V. as the weather is nice enough to be out playing myself. Today the rain dashed those hopes and for the first time in many years, I actually watched the last round of the Masters from start to finish. It was a great tournament and I enjoyed being a lazy bum sitting in front of the boob tube watching how things panned out. I was hoping that Freddy Couples could keep things going (I'm 50 also), but alas he had some issues towards the end but still came out looking good.
Mickelson's shot off the pine straw on the 13th has to rank up there with one of the most incredible (insane?) shots I've seen in a major. All in all, great tourney with lots of drama.

Well, the River City Hacker's year long tournament stats to date are finally compiled, and here is the current standings. It's based on your best monthly gross and your best monthly net rounds. 4 points is assigned for 1st place in each category, 3 for second, etc, and then the two scores are addes together for the point total for that month. A running point count is kept, including partial months to give us the Leaderboard. Joe's currently killing everyone with his stellar play of late.

Like many others, I'm always on a quest to find the "best" golf ball for my game. At first I wanted distance, and less spin (to help ditch the dreaded slice), but have since decided that I'm a lot more accurate now, and need more feel around the green. This thought process was recently confirmed in an article on Oobgolf.com written by The Wedge Guy, Terry Koehler. His article gives good advice on how and why to choose a golf ball that's right for you. You can read the article here.
In the comments section of the article, another Oober posted a link to a chart published in the February 2008 issue of Golf Magazine. I borrowed that chart and assigned points for both distance, and spin to see which balls would give you the best of both worlds. Basically I assigned 44 points (there are 44 balls total) for the top ball in each category, 43 for 2nd best, etc, then added the two sets of points together to give them a ranking. Don't know if this will help anyone, but it was an eye opener for me because I've been using the Topflight D2's for a month or two and thought I'd found the right ball for the right money. Unfortunately they rank, using my system, near the bottom. For now, I plan on using The Wedge Guy's advice combined with the following chart to try out some new balls.

EDIT: argh! I copied and pasted an earlier chart I did where I just ranked the top 20 in each category. Unfortunately, I deleted the new chart that had all 44 balls ranked. Pretty much the same ranking, but I'll fix tomorrow.
EDIT #2: ok, I fixed the chart and added the approximate cost of a dozen balls for each. Most of the prices were obtained off the Golf Galaxy website.

The new Wii "training aid", My Personal Golf Trainer with David Leadbetter is almost out. They've apparently tweaked it based on feedback from in-store demos, and from Leadbetter himself. Initially it was due out in October of 2009, but the "official" retail store release is now May 1st, 2010. You can obtain an early copy on April 5th by going HERE.
