River Oaks Golf Course, Nicolaus, CA
Intro
Well, I'm back into the golfing mode again. As such, I've decided I'm going to
start giving little course reviews each time I go out. I've also set it up so that
you can now start commenting on the website posts, so if you've recently
played this course, feel free to give you input on the course's "current" shape
if you feel like you want to.
The Round
Well, finally broke away from the "office from hell" and played a nice round of golf
with my friends today. Shot a 43 on the front, then went into self destruct mode
and ended up with a 94 which isn't too bad considering I completely lost it on one
par 5 (scored the big 10). Josh shot an 84, Junior an 88, and Joe a 94 so once
again I ended up on the short end of the stick, but shaved around 10 strokes off my
last two rounds so you won't hear me bitching too much.
The Course
River Oaks Golf Course, previously known as Rio La Paz, is located in Nicolaus,
CA near the Feather River north of Sacramento, CA. The course is located right in
the middle of farm land and as such is a fairly flat course. Trees line the fairways
but unless your name is Kevin, they don't come in to play too much. There is some
water on the course, but not enough to completely screw up your round. The course
has a rating/slope of 71.1/128 and measures 6505 yards when played from the Blue
tees. It has a nice bar and grill, a driving range, and practice traps and greens. Our
tee time was at 9:30 on Sunday and cost $40 including the cart (very reasonable for
the greater Sacramento area.
The fairways and greens were in very good condition on the day we played (11/16/08).
During the summer, the grass gets a little brown and the ground is hard as a rock so
if you unleash one, it will roll for days. Even today, if you hit into the fairway you got a
pretty substantial roll. Sand traps were well maintained. Overall, the course was in
as good a shape as any of the other courses we've recently played.
Recommendation
Play it! The course is in great shape and you can't beat the price. Click on the link
